1 Site Launcher Overview

WebCenter Sites provides a site replication utility known as Site Launcher to reduce the time spent developing new websites. This tool is not intended to back up CM websites but to spin them up.

For instance, the management system you use hosts the dedicated CM website for a department called “Products.” A new department titled “Services” has been recently established and must be presented to the general public. “Services” is similar to “Products” in size and structure. However, its members are specialists in public relations instead of advertising personnel. Instead of making a “Services” CM site from scratch, you could replicate”Products” CM site “Products” CM site directly to the management system and then modify the replica to fit the newly-established “Services” department.

Site Launcher replicates the sites of origin directly to the original WebCenter Sites system, re-using the schema of databases already in use. Sites are copied swiftly and effortlessly without the need for coding. Although replication is quick and straightforward, it requires preparation and follow-up on admin. How much depends on the requirements of content management.

The remainder of this chapter outlines the steps to replicate your Site in any content management model – 1:1, 1:n, or x:n, as explained within Content Management Models.

Note:

Site replication is performed only by the administrator in charge. The workflow and site administrators cannot replicate the sites they oversee since they need access to the Site Launcher.

2 Preparing for Replication

Before you attempt to replicate a website, you should consider various recommendations about the purpose of your website and the replicate. Also, you must choose which parts you want to copy or transfer and ensure that the original Site meets the system’s requirements for replication. This section will outline our recommendations for you to consider, your options, and the requirements of your system.

  • Planning the New Site

3 Replication Requirements for the Source Site

Site Launcher is a tool to replicate virtually every CM site, whether small or big and functional. It is incomplete and indistinguishable from other sites, overlapping with other areas due to an exchange of elements.

To utilize Site Launcher most effectively, it is recommended to begin with a small functional, functional, and similar website you need to have. The original Site should be primary, meaning it is designed and structured; however, it needs more content. Apart from the fact that it is a replicable site, these qualities will allow you to conserve resources and speed up replication.

Also, make sure that the source site is within the system management. (If you need to build an identical source site first, follow the steps in Replicating Content Management Sites.)
